P. T. Usha - The Payyoli Express

               The Express, Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha ( Popularly known as P.T. Usha ) was born on 27th June 1964 in the village of Koothali, near Perambra in Kozhikode district, Kerala. She was afflicted by ill health in her early childhood days. Right from(1976) her primary school days, Usha showed the spark of athletic talent and she was the star of many sports events. In 1979, Under the guidance of coach O.M Nambiar, she has participated in the National School Games and won the individual championship. At that moment, She began her career as an Indian athlete.




The Express departured as an Indian Athlete,

  • On the next year, Her first international performance came in form of the 1980 Pakistan Open National Meet at Karachi. At the age of 16, she won four gold medals for our country.  
  • In 1982 at Seoul World junior athletic championship, she won a gold medal in 200 meters and a bronze medal in 100 meters. In the same year at New Delhi Asian Games, she won silver medals in both 100 and 200 metres. 
  • In 1983, Asian Track and Field Championships in Kuwait, she won gold in the 400 meters by setting a new Asian record. At the age of 20, In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Usha achieved a fourth-place in the 400m hurdles race and lost the bronze medal by one-hundredth of a second (0.01 sec).  
  • She was the first Indian woman sprinter to reach the final of an Olympic track event. And the medal hunt continued till 2000. She officially retired from her glorious athletic career in 2000 and started the Usha School of Athletics in her domicile.


Awards and Glory of the Express:


           She earned the Sobriquet - 'Payyoli Express’, ‘Queen of Indian Track And Field' and 'Golden Girl of India' for her incredible records at the International & National athletic meet. She was awarded the Arjuna Award for athletics in 1983 and the Padma Shri in 1985. In her 24 years of career from 1976 to 2000, she won 103 international medals and 1042 national medals.

Dr. C.Sylendra Babu IPS

Hello Readers, We are going to know about the life journey of "Dr. C.Sylendra Babu" IPS and I hope you people are aware, that he is the New Director General of Police(DGP) of Law & Order, Tamil Nadu State Police Department.

Raising of the Star,

           He was born on 5th June 1962 in the town of Kuzhithurai, Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, and completed his SSLC & HSC as a Government School Student. He did his BSc (Agriculture) at Madurai and agriculture extension from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Later, he obtained BGL and MA degrees in Population Studies from the Annamalai University and was awarded a Ph.D. by the University of Madras. In 2013, he obtained a Master of Business Administration(MBA) degree in Human Resources.

Journey and honours towards the Uniformed Service,

  • He begins the Indian Police Service (IPS)  as a member of the 1987 batch and got the training at National Police Academy, Hyderabad. 
  • He started out as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gobichettipalayam in October 1989. At that period, he was engaged in the mission to capture the veerapan.To honour his greatness, He was promoted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1992 and served in many places, including Dindigul, Cuddalore, and Kancheepuram. 
  • He also worked as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) at Adyar in Chennai in 2000. In 2001, He has also served as the Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Viluppuram and as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Later he became the DIG of Police, Tiruchirapalli before becoming the Chief Vigilance Officer in Karur. 
  • In 2007, he was promoted to Inspector General (IG) for Northern Zone, Chennai. In 2010, he was appointed as the Commissioner of Coimbatore. In April 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) of Prisons, Tamil Nadu. 
  • Later, he was appointed as the ADGP of Coastal Police and then appointed as the ADGP of Railway Police. In March 2019, he was promoted as the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Railway Police. On June 30, 2021, he took charge as DGP of Tamil Nadu Police.
  • He has received many awards & honours, including the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2005), President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2013), and Chief Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Public Service (2019).

As a Social Activist, Motivator, and an Inspiration to youth,

  • He follows a strict training regimen and posts videos on social media, where he has a huge following, on fitness, healthy eating habits, marathons, cycling and other lifestyle activities. 
  • He had also motivated many of the young minds with his speeches during the various schools and colleges meet. He authored 13 books in both Tamil and English, which motivates everyone to take part in the civil services. 
  • He has organized free karate camps for children from the poor economic section. He has also initiated karate camps in various women's colleges. 
  • While serving as the ADGP, He engaged himself in a Cycle rally with the 22 members of Coastal Security Group and Indian Coast Guard from Chennai to Kanyakumari by covering 890 kms. In 2017, He went on a 32-day cycling expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. 
  • In 2018, he led a team of 10 police personnel in swimming across the Palk Strait, covering about 28 kms in 12 hours. He also played a role in Asian and World athletic championships and participated in the various marathon.
